Works In Progress

I am currently working on four small paintings that were originally intended to be part of the Postcard Show, but I missed the deadline for entries.  I have used my previous paintings of “A Bit Of….” as a basis for these, and am creating “PC Cobalt”, “PC Emerald”, “PC Canary” and “PC Crimson”. These will be complete within the next week. They are acrylic, abstract geometric styled paintings.

I have nearly finished an abstract acrylic on canvas board which is as yet un-named. It is a cross-section of a red cabbage, which is painted from a photograph I took last year. The shapes that are within the red cabbage are soft and flowing, and the colours merge from one to the other very softly. I am struggling to get the blending as smooth as I would like, hence the fact that this painting is not yet finished.

Third on my list of  WIP is a portrait that I have been working on for way too long – yet because I have been away from it for a while, I am finding it difficult to get back in “the zone” and will really have to clear my work-space in order to focus my attention fully on it! It is a gift for a friend’s parents,  and since tragedy has recently struck the family, I feel more compelled to make it my best portrait painting to date.

I have recently started a diptych which is based on a photograph I set up of a wig stand wearing a top hat, and an old fashioned telephone. The wig stand (basically a polystyrene head) appears to be talking on the telephone, the wire of which I intend to portray using some string which will be dangling between the two canvases. This is only a small painting, each canvas is approximately 7  x 5 inches. I expect this painting will be finished this month.
