Here’s a new collaboration between Helen Davison and Amanda Hunt – it’s called “London by Night”.

Helen painted the background in acrylics and ink and then sent the canvas to me. I then added the foreground layer in acrylics. This is a unique way of working with no communication between the artists, each adding their own character and inspiration to the painting. The end result is a truly distinctive piece of art.

I really enjoyed the challenge of this piece as the colours Helen chose for the background are unlike anything I would normally use. It made me think a little differently and I am really pleased with the result.

Thought I’d share with you a picture of my newest painting – Japanese Blossom.
I love chinese and japanese artwork with garden flowers and cherry blossom and was inspired to try a variation of my own. I was also thinking ahead to Spring (wishful thinking maybe!) when there is always a fantastic display of cherry blossom all down my road. The first true sign that spring has arrived and summer is on it’s way. Not long to wait now!

This morning I dropped off two paintings for the annual Ferens Art Gallery’s Open Exhibition, which takes place from Saturday 12th February until Sunday 3rd April 2011. I have entered a few times in the past without success, but I have positive feelings this time – I am entering “3 Wise Men An An Interloper” and “Red Rocks”. Both paintings are an acrylic/ink media on canvas board and are mounted and framed. I entered them successfully for the East Yorkshire Open Art Exhibition last July so decided to use them again.

I will find out if I have been successful on 4th February, so fingers crossed!

It seems to be the perfect weather for Christmas Tree Festivals – I wrote about one last weekend on my personal blog here. That one featured a tree that Keith (my husband) and I had decorated on behalf of Bilton Amateur Dramatic Society. This time, I’m keen to show you some photos taken at a rather larger display in the village where I live. It is the increasingly popular Christmas Tree Display of All Saints Church, Preston, East Yorkshire. This year, there were 33 trees and scenes on display – the trees were much bigger than those at the Bilton festival, but then it is a much bigger church, too!

My favourite tree was the recycled one. Preston couple, Tony & Maureen Dale, used the tree they had decorated last year and which they’d planted in the garden since. It had not survived so they decided to create their entry this year based on the theme of recycling. They sprayed the tree white and decorated it with an assortment of items that would normally be thrown away. Most ingenious of all, however, was the dynamo-powered fairy lights. In order to see them lit up, you had to sit on an exercise bike and pedal! I had to have a go, naturally! It kept me warm for a while, too – the church is extremely cold!

Here are some photos that Keith took at the weekend – spot the nutter on the cycle!

Decorated by Preston Primary School

I love the view of the trees in the shot above – the pews have had a “tree table” placed along the full length of them in order to accommodate all the trees within the church!

This, however, is my favourite tree, mainly due to the creative way of utilising the dead tree and the powering of the lights!

Today I discovered that both myself and fellow Rogue Gene member, Andrea Farmer , have had one of our pieces of art selected for a Treasury on Etsy. Getting your art in a treasury is a boost to your self esteem as it reinforces the worth of your work when fellow art lovers are show-casing it on your behalf. It is also a really useful way of getting a lot of extra promotion since a lot of the time, Etsy users (both sellers and buyers) use twitter and other social networking applications on a regular basis.

I found out first of from reading an email message from the curator of the Treasury, michellpryorart. Then I saw a link on Facebook to Andrea’s latest personal blog post mentioning the fact that we were both featured in the same Treasury.

Here is a snapshot of the Treasury – you can visit Etsy and look at all the items in more details by clicking on this link if you wish, too.

In the Treasury, Michelle has kindly featured one of Andrea’s hauntingly ethereal landscape paintings entitled “All In It”, which is for sale in her Etsy shop at $30 (approximately £19) including free postage. You can view it full screen by going to Andrea’s Etsy shop here: http://www.etsy.com/listing/29132770/all-in-it-original-ethereal-landscape?ref=tre-4cde10b839fc8eef8023afd6-14

The painting I have had featured is one of my mini paintings complete with easel – “Moonflowers”, which is for sale in my Etsy shop, Arty Aitch, at $14 (approximately £9). You can view it full screen here.

Many thanks for Michelle for featuring two members of Rogue Gene Collective in her latest Treasury, it is much appreciated!
