Amanda Hunt’s Solo Winter Art Exhibition at Stoke Mandeville Hospital is entering it’s final 2 weeks. Amanda’s exhibition runs up until the end of Februrary 2010 and all artworks on display are available for purchase with 20% of all proceeds going to SMARTS – Stoke Mandeville Hospital’s childrens art charity. Charity skydive for The Institute of Cancer Research

Pooh Bear Rewards

In April of this year I began voluntary work as a Pooh Bear Reading Assistance Society member. I was assigned to Stockwell Primary School on the Greatfield estate in East Hull. On the first day there, the teacher welcomed me with gusto and asked if I would be willing to help out on any other days for an hour or so, but with drama rather than the reading help I was assigned to help with on a Wednesday morning. I was actually quite pleased to be asked and only too happy to help with this. So, as well as attending the school each Wednesday morning since then, I have also been going in on a Friday afternoon from 1 till 2.30pm to take drama lessons with the tutor for Year 4 children. These sessions have usually involved the whole class, and I thought they had a lot of talent and seemed, in the main, fairly interested in the games and role-play sessions that I created for them. I was usually greeted with a resounding cheer from the whole class each time I walked into the classroom, which always made me smile! I also found the children polite towards me and they were generally well behaved. Last Friday was my last session with them and I was overwhelmed and touched by the fact that each child in the class that day had made me a thank you card for taking the drama sessions! I have taken a photo of the cards as a whole, just to show what a lot of work had gone into these. I hope to continue with these sessions next term, although it will be a whole new class of children.
A simple thank you expressed in this way makes any voluntary work so much more worthwhile and I am very grateful to the children and their teacher for doing this.

'Ethereal Landscapes'

Andrea is currently exhibiting her work at the The Gallery, Farleigh Hospice, Chelmsford, Essex.

The exhibition consists of 15 artworks and is entitled ‘Ethereal Landscapes’. All the paintings are for sale with 25% of the sale price being donated to the Hospice.

The exhibition runs until Friday 29th May 2009.

Mini Art Show

The South Street Gallery in Scarborough are holding a “Mini Art Show” of works in all disciplines from 25th April to 6th June 2009.

I will be submitting my four latest works to this exhibition – “PC Emerald”, “PC Canary”, “PC Cobalt” and “PC Crimson”, so they are at present reserved until the show is over, unless they sell at the exhibition.

£1 of every artwork sold at the exhibition will be donated to St. Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough.

Voluntary work

I am currently awaiting receipt of another CRB clearance in order to carry out voluntary work with the Pooh Bear Reading Assistance Society in Hull. Having completed the training course last month, I am now eagerly waiting for the clearance and to be assigned to a school. The Pooh Bear Reading Assistance Society was founded 30 years ago and is a voluntary organisation that provides one-to-one reading support to children who find reading difficult. Working in schools, family homes and other settings, the volunteers aim to build confidence and develop reading skills through sharing and enjoying books together.

Aitch has decided to take up more voluntary work in order to combine two of her passions – her love of reading and the skill she has acquired of teaching children via her voluntary work at Bilton Amateur Dramatic Society.

Race for Life 2009

Andrea will be taking part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. The 5k run takes place on Sunday 21st June 2009 at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, Essex.
