Here are some photos from the exhibition we held at Pinder Hall in Cookham last weekend. You will notice that there are also one or two non-Rogue Gene Collective artists included, which really helped to create an interesting and varied exhibition.

I will be writing about the weekend in more detail on my personal blog soon, once this nice weather has gone!

The Rogue Gene Collective artists are holding an exhibition of their work at Pinder Hall in Cookham on 16th May. There will be a wide selection of affordable and original art and craft works for sale by members of the group, five of whom will be attending in person. The event also features local artists.

The Rogue Gene Collective is a small group of artists who are committed to helping each other attain a higher level of visibility for their work. We do this by networking; pooling resources, information, knowledge and contacts. There are currently seven members, and four guest artists

As a group we hold exhibitions all over the country acting as agents, couriers and publicists for each other. Our aim is to offer a wide variety of quality original artwork to the collector, occasional buyer or corporate buyer.

This exhibition is a rare opportunity for the group to come together in person to exhibit a comprehensive collection of original quality work, representing some of the best competitively priced contemporary artwork available. There will also be a special stand showing a selection of collaborations between the group members. This is a new and unique idea where two artists have worked together to create an original artwork.

The exhibition will be on Sunday 16th May at Pinder Hall, Lower Road, Cookham, SL6 9EH. Amanda Hunt, Andrea Farmer, Helen Davison, Kos Marton and Rob Kirbyson will all be available throughout the day to answer any questions or just for a chat.

Cookham is a small village on the banks of the Thames just off Junction 4 on the M40, and Junction 8/9 of the M4. Why not come for the day – a visit to the exhibition can easily be combined with a stroll along the river and maybe a pub lunch in one of the many small local country pubs. Entrance is free and the event is suitable for all the family.

‘Tree and Photographer’ is this week’s featured image in the ‘Ace Café‘ group on redbubble.
Images are submitted for consideration by members of the group, and critiqued and voted on for admission by the members of the group. The hosts select a weekly feature image from the images accepted into the group.
There is also a workshop area for discussion of how images could be improved.

In this group we are looking to exhibit exceptional art as voted for by the members. We hope that it will be an open, lively and friendly group where artists are supported and encouraged to grow.

I’m working on a series of images based on small parts of objects in the landscape. Mostly these are parts of natural objects, which present a different impression when only a small part is seen, or are man-made objects abandoned and transformed by nature.
An initial selection are available from my account on redbubble as cards or as prints in a variety of sizes and forms.

A monochrome print of my image of a woodland stream has been awarded a Gold label by a United Photographic Postfolios of Great Britain circle, and will go forward to the UPP annual exhibition later this year. This image was made from a photograph taken in the Lake District in 2007.

Up, up and away . . .

Hubby and I recently fulfilled one of our ambitions and flew together in a hot air balloon. With the British School of Ballooning at the helm, we lifted off from Newlands Hall, Chelmsford and drifted over the fields of Essex landing near to Stanstead. I was surprised at how gentle the balloon lifted off although landing was a far different matter! Whilst up in the air with the burner off, everything was very quiet and peaceful. The views over the Essex countryside are amazing. It was great fun helping to assemble the balloon for the flight and slightly hard work packing it away again afterwards, but we were spurred on by the thought of the champagne that awaited us all at the end! As a lover of the British landscape, I took lots of photographs which I am sure will inspire further landscape paintings. A wonderful experience!

Decisions …

devastation

I’ve said I’ll enter the Cotswold Monochrome salon this year, so the time has come to decide on four images to submit, as submissions close next week.

I’m not good at making decisions!

I’ll probably include ‘devastation‘ in the set (Iron Keld in the Lake District), one more recent image, and a couple of older ones. I’ve no idea what the judges are looking for (other than that it has just a few seconds to make an impact before they move onto the next image). I won’t be including anything that I submitted to the Lancashire and Cheshire Photographic Union, since they didn’t meet with much approval there!
