With two exhibitions coming up this autumn it has also provided me with some motivation to pick up my brushes and focus on some new challenges.

These are two of my new ones. With “Dahlias” I wanted to add to my flower repetoire with a contemporary slant and with “Lake View” I wanted to go back to basics and set myself a challenge of creating a painting concentrating on tone and shade. This painting was created using just burnt umber and titanium white and was a fun exercise.

I’ve just spent a week in the Lake District as a guest at Lakeland Photographic Holidays, which I can recommend to anybody wanting excellent photographic advice and tuition (geared to the photographers’ capabilities) as well as excellent home cooking at a very reasonable price.

It was a very unusual week – anyone who has visited the Lake District at this time of year will know to expect rain at the least, and snow as a distinct possibility … this year for the week I was there we had nothing but warm sunny weather!
