Holderness Art Show

Well, I’ve delivered my two entries for the Holderness Art Show 2010 – I opted for an acrylic abstract painting (Cool Sticks) and a pastel drawing (Violin – Dedicated To Daniel) as they are both framed and were hanging in the house within easy reach! The exhibition is being held at St Peters and St Pauls Church in Burton Pidsea, East Yorkshire, and is open on 11th September for the preview (tickets only) then on Sunday 12th September 10.30am to 4.30pm.

There are about 70 entries for this exhibition so it should be quite varied and I look forward to seeing the other items on display. It’s the first time I’ve entered this particular exhibition but as I am trying to enter as many local shows as possible, I didn’t want to miss out.

Cool Sticks, Acrylic on board.

The whole trail looks set to be very exciting with a diverse range of work for sale and lots of special events.

You can collect an Arts Trail brochure from any of the venues taking part (look out for the numbered stickers and posters in their window) or from Interior Angle Gallery, 23 Wells Street, Chelmsford. The trail runs until Sunday 26th September 2010.

East Yorkshire Open Art Exhibition

This morning I finally managed to get to the exhibition at Sewerby Hall, Bridlington, where two of my paintings have been hanging since July 3rd. I was chuffed that my pieces were chosen, since it was the first time I’ve entered this particular exhibition. I really thought that today was my last chance for viewing, but when I got there, the date of the exhibition is displayed as 3rd July  to 31st August, not the 29th (as I had on my entry form). Anyhow, I managed to get a photo of my two paintings in situ – there were quite a variety of artworks on show and it was worth the trip. I spotted quite a few pieces from fellow East Riding Artists members, including a couple of new acrylic paintings by Peter Schoenecker, whose work I have always liked.

Red Rocks and 2 Wise Men and an InterloperI didn’t like to take any more photos since it was fairly busy, with it being a Bank Holiday weekend – the painting you can see next to my two is called Manhattan Sunset, painted in acrylic by an Lesley Webb – I’ve not heard of her before.

As well as the exhibition, which was situated upstairs in the West Wing (several rooms, actually), there were lots of other artworks on display (some of which were temporary and others permanent) along with a museum, a room dedicated to Amy Johnson and lots of rooms full of antique furniture etc. The grounds were full also today – there was a vintage (or was it classic??) car show and a display of jousting by some people who re-enact certain periods in history – not my cup of tea at all, but obviously very popular.

My favourite view of the day was the following snaps I took of some llamas that are resident within the gardens of the Hall:

Latest painting uploaded

It’s been a long time since I uploaded any new work to my personal web-site. I have been concentrating on  small craft-based items recently, such as my decorated note-books and hand-made cards etc. However, I did manage to complete a small painting last month in order to display it at the exhibition with ERA at Burton Constable Country Fair.

So, after a month without exposure online, here is my most recent painting – “Giza Look”. It is loosely based on the three pyramids I saw when visiting them at Giza, just outside Cairo earlier this year. I just wanted to re-create the feel of them, their texture and colour. The painting is in acrylic and in a wooden frame which is free-standing.

I need to get back to blogging, too after quite a long time without much input!
